There is not much happening in the Iris Garden at this time of the year. We could use some rain, as it is very dry now.

It has been a long time since there was anything to post. Not much happening during the summer months, just keep the weeds out of the Iris beds.

The annual sale will be coming up in the 2nd week of Sept.

Full Bloom

The Iris beds are in full bloom now. The show is coming up on this Saturday so there should be an abundant supply of blooms to pick from for the exhibits.

Committee Meeting

We had a committee meeting today. There were no new major items on the agenda.
Tomorrow, will do some work in the Iris beds at the park. The weeds have gotten a big start ahead of the Iris due to all the rain that has occoured this winter. Also, need to clean the laeves away from the rizones so they can get some sun light

Iris Beds

Cleaned the Iris beds at the park today. The weeds had not multiplied as much this time. I think that am beginning to win the battle with them. Applied Roundup to the clumps of nut grass, as that only spreads when you cut it back.

Began to remove the trash leaves from the rhizomes.

Will soon be time to apply fertilizer. Stopped by the COOP to check on the prices. They did not have any 5-10-10 available today.

It has been awhile since the last post. In that time we have had a good rain. On Thur 19th Aug there was 4.5 inches and about another .5 the next day. this is quite unexpected for the month of Aug.

A Rain in July

It has been dry since the last of June but last night we had a welcome rain for this time of the year. As of this morning 29 July we had received 2.7 inches of rain. Some of the eastern parts of the county received as much as 6 inches. There were reports of flooding and also to the east.

It is still raining this morning so will probably not have to do any watering for a couple of weeks.

Yesterday planted the Pansy seed. These should germinate in about 10-15 days. Hope to be ready to transplant about mid-to-late Sept.

Had 0.1 inch rain yesterday and 1.3 inch today. Part was in the form of a heavy downpour.
Mowed the grass.

Worked on the Iris beds at the park this morning. Removed the weeds and sprayed the nut grass with roundup. Still need to spend more time cleaning the leaves off the rizones so they can get more sun light.

Today was the first day of summer

Mowed the yard this evening and applied fertilizer to the back yard. Will start watering tomorrow unless it rains tonight.
Yesterday set out a new bunch of periwinkle plants. The cucumbers are setting lots new cucumbers.

The rain which began early tue morning the 8th ended last nite the 9th. the storm total was 4.5 inches. this left the ground thourghly soaked.
Mowed the grass tonight 6/10. It is time to apply some fertilizer but will waite until the ground drys, probably next week.

Performed maintenance weeding on the Iris bed today. No rain.
Need to look at adding some mulch.

Since the rains of this week the grass has been looking good. The Moss Rose if blooming profusly. Cucumbers have lots of blooms but not many are seting. The ants are building new mounds since they are diging out after the rains. Day Lillies are blooming.
Did not receive any rain today, even though there were scattered showers in the area.

Had another 1.0 inch rain last nite. Will have to mow the grass today as it is growing fast with the rain

Wind Storm

We had a very strong wind storm through the area. Tree limbs etc were blown down. Part of my gutter was blown down.
Had 0.2 inch of rain.

A Good Rain

Yesterday i finished setting out the day lilly bulbs.
This evening we had a good rain so should not have to water for the next week. The ariport reported 2.35 inches. I will check my rain gage in the morning.

The drainage ditch was running full and we had a strong wind with the storm. Need to check for any trash in the drainage ditch.

The cucumbers have lots of blooms, but not many are setting at this point. Have not seen many bees around for polination

Today was clear and the temperture not too bad at a high of 88.

Watered the front yard today. The grass was getting very dry.

It was another clear day and a little less warm with a high of 88. Still no rain.
Worked on the Iris beds today. They still need some of the old vegitation removed.

The geese were downstream and one is nesting now.

This is a test at writing the first Blog.

The grass and flowers look as if they are enjoying the fresh drink after the shower this past evening. The strong wind did damage some of the flowers though.

The 0.3 inch of rain came as a hard downpour and much of it did run off.
